About Us

What does IEEE stand for?

The Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) is an international professional association dedicated to advancing technology for humanity. The IEEE Student Branch at Cal Poly is a club on campus that is dedicated to providing students with resources to help them with their interests in engineering, projects or otherwise. We as a club like to promote a community for the students as well as academic excellence. We devote our time to giving all students a hands-on opportunity to learn and an opportunity to connect with industry. Officers are also here to help provide you with any assistance regarding classes, projects, or senior projects to the extent of their knowledge. In addition to providing help, officers are also in the IEEE room to help sell parts to students.

Our Student Branch

We accomplish this goal through resources such as tutoring, project funding, tools, mentorship, and much more. Another goal of our branch is connecting students to industry. Through various partnerships, we are able to host companies and give students direct access to companies in the form of tech talks, workshops, and networking opportunities.

We provide members with components and lab equipment that they need for their classes, projects, and hobbies. Additionally, our mentorship network connects engineering students with upperclassmen to get support in aspects such as classes, advice for projects, or even the transition to college. Lastly, we hope to help foster the relationships between teachers and students to help both thrive in our learn by doing way of life.

The National Branch

IEEE (“I triple E”), an international professional association created in 1963, is now the world’s largest association of technical professionals with more than 420,000 members. The goal of “Advancing Technology for Humanity” sums up its mission and vision, listed below.

IEEE fosters technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

IEEE will be essential to the global technical community and to technical professionals everywhere, and be universally recognized for the contributions of technology and of technical professionals in improving global conditions.
